BYRON UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL is excited to be hosting the BUFF INDEPENDENT FILM FORUM on Saturday the 22nd of May at the Byron Theatre from 1pm-10pm
If you're an emerging or experienced filmmaker, or someone wanting to learn more about the local film industry, this special event is an incredible opportunity to learn about the independent film industry from some of our special festival guests. Introductions from local filmmakers, from experienced filmmakers discussing how they made their first feature films, the challenges of raising finance, working with producers, screenwriting and other hurdles.
INDEPENDENT FILM FORUM - FULL PROGRAM
12pm - "100% PURE BYRON - "Bay Not Bae"
Come and meet some of Byron Bay's most prolific independent filmmakers with short films, documentaries and experimental art films, with special introductions by the filmmakers followed by networking and drinks.
3pm "FURTHER WE SEARCH" with Byron Bay local Director Darius Devas. Set in Melbourne's bohemian underbelly and creative warehouse culture, Director Darius Devas breaks down the inspiration for this beautifuoly poetic first feature and the challenges of working with Hollywood-oriented talent on a low budget film.
4pm "JIRGA" Winner of the AACTA Award for Best Independent Feature. We sit down with local director Benjamin Gilmour to learn about how he made this stunning feature debut on a low budget shooting in Afghanistan on a low budget and no crew.
6pm "Small Island Big Song" Shot in 16 countries over 4 years on a shoestring budget, director Tim Cole (Not Drowning Waving) brings his experience as an award-winning music producer to create this stunning documentary that explores the history of island migrations and the contemporary challenges of climate change.
8pm CLAW - Australian Premiere - Join us for our action packed final screening with low budget action horror about the perils of keeping a dinosaur as a pet. Screening includes introduction and Q&A with director Gerald Rascionato and producer Joe Hogan.
